Swell:

The Långsele – Västeraspby railway is a single-track, electrified Swedish railway line . It is part of the Ådalsbanan , which leads from Sundsvall via Härnösand and Sollefteå to Långsele .

history

The Swedish State Railways Statens Järnvägar (SJ) opened the 50 kilometer long section between Ragunda and Långsele and the 14 kilometer long railway line Långsele – Sollefteå as part and branch line of the Stambana genom övre Norrland on October 1, 1886.

On December 12, 1893, Härnösand-Sollefteå järnvägaktiebolag (HdSJ) was able to establish the connection towards Sundsvall . On June 26, 1931, the HdSJ applied for the state to take over the company because its debts were high and no more credit was granted. In March 1932, Kunglig's Majesty applied to the Reichstag for takeover. On April 29, 1932, the Reichstag approved this request. On 28/29 June 1932, the takeover agreement between the HdSJ and Järnvägsstyrelsen was negotiated and the route was assigned to the fourth district of the state railways. The state railways received a grant of 240,000 crowns to improve the infrastructure. All permanent employees of the HdSJ received an offer to transfer to the state service. On July 1, 1932, the state took over the HdSJ.

The line was electrified as early as 1939.

Further changes came with the construction of the Botniabana . The new Västeraspby train station with a connection to the Höga Kusten Airport was built .

expansion

Regardless of the maximum speed of 70 km / h listed in Järnvägsnätsbeskrivning 2021 for the Bandel 232 , this has been limited to 40 km / h since 2020 due to structural defects. It is planned to upgrade the route between Långsele and Västeraspby so that it can be used as a diversion route. The renovation includes securing the embankment, replacing switches, tracks and overhead lines as well as converting several level crossings. After the renovation, the maximum speed should be 80 km / h. The planned start of construction is 2020/2021.
