The Neupetershain – Hoyerswerda line was a branch line in Niederlausitz . It ran from Neupetershain via Welzow to Hoyerswerda .

history

The construction of the line was approved in 1902. It was opened on July 1, 1907. Around 1936 the airfield near Welzow was given a siding.

The rest of the story is closely linked to lignite mining. In the 1950s, two connecting curves were built north of Bluno to the newly built Knappenrode – Sornoer Buden railway line . Then the continuous route between Bluno and Proschim-Haidemühl was interrupted. From then on, the Neupetershain – Hoyerswerda trains no longer ran via Welzow and Proschim-Haidemühl for a while, but via Sornoer Buden without stopping. In 1961 these trains were discontinued. On the southern section between Bluno and Hoyerswerda, a few passenger trains to Schwarze Pump remained .

In 1967 the Deutsche Reichsbahn stopped travel. The section between Hoyerswerda and Bluno was closed and dismantled. The remaining stretch from Neupetershain to Welzow has only been used for freight traffic since 1960 and has been permanently closed since December 31, 1994.
