Proschim , Prožym in Lower Sorbian , is a district of Welzow in the Spree-Neisse district in Brandenburg .

location

Proschim is located in Niederlausitz directly on the border with Saxony and is part of the official settlement area of the Sorbs / Wends . Surrounding villages are Welzow in the north, the districts of Bluno in the southeast and Klein Partwitz in the south , which belong to the Saxon municipality of Elsterheide, and the districts of Lieske in the west and Bahnsdorf in the northwest, which belong to the municipality of New Zealand .

The state road 522 to Welzow and Neupetershain as well as the district road 7121 runs through Proschim , through which the place is connected to the federal road 156, which runs about five kilometers to the southwest . The Welzow-Süd open-cast lignite mine is located northwest of Proschim .

The Karlsfeld (Karlowe pólo) and Zollhaus (Cłonica) residential areas belong to Proschim .

history

Proschim was first mentioned in a document in 1527 as "Prosemer Heide". The meaning of the name is unclear. The first school was founded in the village around 1800 and the first community school building was built in 1907. Between 1898 and 1903, the first landowners sold land to lignite mining companies . From 1914 to 1919, with interruptions during the First World War , the first Proschim Church was built and consecrated in 1919. As early as 1917, the first lignite began to be extracted from the area.

During the last days of the Second World War , several houses in Proschim were badly damaged or destroyed. They were rebuilt in the post-war years.

After the Congress of Vienna , Proschim came to the Kingdom of Prussia as part of Niederlausitz . On July 25, 1952, the community was added to the newly formed Spremberg district in the Cottbus district. After the fall of the Wall , Proschim was in the Spremberg district in Brandenburg . After the district reform in Brandenburg on December 6, 1993 , Proschim was finally assigned to the newly formed Spree-Neisse district . On October 26, 2003 Proschim was incorporated into Welzow .

present

In the years after 2014, Vattenfall GmbH wanted to start a resumption of lignite mining in the Proschim district, which means that the place will be devastated . The village should therefore be relocated as part of the Welzow-Süd opencast mine . Vattenfall employees living in the village tend to be in favor of resettlement, while local farmers are against. However, the resumption of lignite mining was delayed. It is questionable whether Proschim will be relocated. The LEAG wants to make a decision in 2020. After the state elections in Brandenburg in 2019 , the SPD, CDU and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen agreed in their coalition agreement that there would be "no new open-cast mines, no open-cast mine expansion and no resettlement of villages" (p. 65). On November 19, 2019, the contract was signed by the representatives of the parties involved.
