history

Local history

Lieske was first mentioned in a document as Leszk in 1474 . It was laid out as a street village. The village had belonged to the Senftenberg rule since the 15th century . The farmers from Lieske, like the farmers from Meuro , Klettwitz and Sorno, were obliged to serve in the Senftenberg office . They had to transport manure from the sheep pens to the office's vineyards. These were located in the so-called Hörlitzer corridor.

Between 1962 and 1967, part of the site was demolished by the Sedlitz opencast mine . 35 residents were relocated. On June 1, 1974, Lieske was incorporated into the village of Bahnsdorf. In the course of the municipal reform, the New Zealand municipality was formed on February 1, 2002 from the municipalities of Lindchen , Lubochow and Ressen as well as Bahnsdorf with the locality of Lieske.

In 1880 96.1 percent of the population were Sorbs , in 1956 only 0.3 percent of the Sorbian language was proficient.
