Information about the observation tower

The Sedlitzer See is to be developed into the best-developed lake in the chain of lakes in terms of traffic. A water landing pad for light aircraft is planned on the western outlet, south of the Sedlitz location . Holiday apartments and residential properties are also planned at this point. Another area that can be used for tourism is shown in the north-east of the lake, south-east of the Lieske location and south of the B 156 , and holiday apartments are also to be built here. On October 23, 2008, a 30-meter-high observation tower made of Corten steel was inaugurated on the Sorno Canal , the "Landmark Sedlitz", commonly known as the "Rusty Nail". The name comes from the red-brown patina made of iron oxide, which is said to increase over time. This rust-red color of the steel is supposed to remind of the industrial past of the Lusatian Lakeland. The cost was almost a million euros. The tower was inaugurated in the theme year "Seensucht Lausitz" of the international building exhibition Fürst-Pückler-Land .

On June 15, 2010, construction work began on an approximately 1200 meter long canal for smaller ships between the Sedlitz and Großräschener See. It crosses under the four tracks of the Senftenberg-Cottbus railway line and federal highway 169 . The project cost 12 million euros.
