history
The first written mention of Ressen comes from 1582 with the name we know today.
The village church dates from the 15th century, it is included in the state monument list of the state of Brandenburg. There were six ponds in Ressen. However, due to the open-cast mines around the site and the associated lowering of the water table, five ponds have dried up.
Originally the people of Ressen spoke Lower Sorbian (Wendish). The gradual change of language to German took place in the 19th century. In 1884 Arnošt Muka had 40 Sorbs (25%) out of 159 inhabitants.
Until 1816, Ressen belonged to the Brandenburg-Prussian Cottbus district , then from 1816 to 1950 to the district of Calau , which was renamed the district of Senftenberg in 1950. In the district reform of 1952, Ressen came to the newly cut district of Calau .
In the course of the Brandenburg municipal area reform, the New Zealand municipality was formed on February 1, 2002 from the municipalities of Lindchen , Lubochow and Bahnsdorf and Ressen.
