The Varel – Rodenkirchen railway was a standard-gauge branch line that connected the city of Varel with Rodenkirchen (Oldb) on the Weser .

history

The line was opened on April 30, 1913, after a long time new variants of a better development had been considered. In 1911 the planning was completed and construction work began. The Varel office contributed 147,000 marks to the construction costs.

The railway was well received, in 1930 six pairs of passenger trains ran daily. On June 1, 1958, passenger traffic on the route was stopped, as was goods traffic between Diekmannshausen and Rodenkirchen. The tracks on this section were dismantled in 1961. There was still freight traffic between Varel and Diekmannshausen until 1992. Mainly oil and wood were transported. Two years later these tracks were also demolished.
