history

Tittmoning station (2016)

The Wiesmühl – Tittmoning railway was originally part of the Freilassing – Tittmoning local line . It went into full operation on May 1, 1894 with the opening of the Laufen –Tittmoning section . In connection with the construction of the Tauern Railway in Austria , the Royal Bavarian State Railways expanded the local railway into the main line by 1908 and expanded it from Wiesmühl in the direction of Mühldorf. The remainder of the Wiesmühl – Tittmoning line continued to operate as a branch line.

The 1939 summer timetable recorded seven pairs of passenger trains between Wiesmühl and Tittmoning on weekdays, and another was added on Sundays. The journey time was 14 minutes in the direction of Tittmoning and 16 minutes in the opposite direction. In Wiesmühl most of the trains had connections to Salzburg and Mühldorf.

On September 27, 1969, passenger traffic was stopped. On May 28, 1978 the line was closed, the remaining freight traffic ended on July 31, 1981. This last only served a steel construction company in Tittmoning with irregular trips. As a result, the line was dismantled.

The former railway line is now partly used as a combined foot and bike path. In some cases, however, the route is difficult to make out.

Vehicle use

Initially, the Royal Bavarian State Railways mainly used the Ptl 2/2 "Glaskasten" tank locomotives on the route. They were based in the Freilassing depot .

The German Federal Railroad ran passenger trains with rail buses of the VT 98 series (798), which, however, drove without sidecars due to the low number of passengers. At times they also served as towing cars for the sparse freight traffic, with a trailer load of 50 tons. The freight trains in the last few years of operation were carried with diesel locomotives of the DB class V 60 (360).
