Bahoz Erdal

Bahoz Erdal is the nom de guerre of the former commander of the People's Defense Forces , the "guerrilla" of the Kurdish Workers' Party of Kurdistan (PKK). He held this post from 2004 to April 2009. His real name is Fahman Husain. In the Turkish-language media close to the PKK, his name is Fehman Hüseyin. Because of his medical degree, he will also become Dr. Called Bahoz Erdal .

Life

Little is known about the life of Bahoz Erdal. He is from Syria and is the only prominent leadership member of the PKK from Syria. He studied human medicine in Damascus. In 1987 he broke off his studies and joined the PKK. There he rose to guerrilla leader in 2004. In 2009 Bahoz Erdal was replaced. In addition to Kurdish and Arabic, he speaks fluent Turkish.

Positions

Fahman Husain (Kurdish; Fehman Hûseyn) alias Bahoz Erdal is mainly present in Arabic-language media due to his origins and his language skills. Reports with him appeared in Al Jazeera and in the newspapers al-Hayat and al-Akhbar . Husain is considered a hardliner. In October 2007, in connection with a possible cross-border action by Turkey, he threatened that the party institutions of the CHP and the AKP could become the target of attacks by the PKK. One is determined and able to get everyone back with the same coin; he spoke of a "total resistance" that would be opposed to the actions of Turkey. In media close to the PKK, he openly calls on Kurdish youth to join the guerrilla movement. With regard to his Syrian homeland, Husain said the Syrian government plans to infiltrate the Kurdish people or to expel or destroy the Kurds. That would lead to a war between both peoples. He is considered to be Murat Karayilan's main competitor , with whom, according to press reports, he is supposed to be fighting a real power struggle for the leadership of the PKK.

Death report

The Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on July 9, 2016 that Husain had been killed the previous day. The agency Firat (ANF News) denied the news hours later, citing it as an excuse to raise the morale of the Turkish troops. The news agency Al Jazeera reported on July 13, 2016 that Bahoz Erdal was alive and had confirmed this personally by telephone in a conversation with the reporter from the news agency from the city of Erbil. "It is part of the psychological war against the PKK," Erdal is reported to have said. On the same day, Bahoz Erdal was allegedly a guest on the Kurdish radio "Denge Kurdistan". The audio recording of the statement was published on the website of the PKK-affiliated ANF news agency.
