The Bailey Ice Stream is an ice stream in the East Antarctic Coatsland . It flows along the northern edge of the Theron Mountains in a west-southwest direction to the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after the glaciologist Jeremy Thomas Bailey (1941-1965) of the British Antarctic Survey , who on October 12, 1965 with two companions in the course of an echo sounder measurement series started from Halley Station , including in the upper section of the Ice stream, died when falling into a crevasse .
