Baiocco (also Bajocco , plural Baiocchi or Bajocchi ) is a historical coin of the Papal States .

The origin of the name is disputed. It appears for the first time around 1420 in Sulmona and Sora , where it describes the silver Bolognini . From them the name was transferred to the papal Bolognini around 1450. From 1726 to 1870 the Baiocco was minted as a copper dividing coin ; around 1800 partly in huge numbers. The value of the 12 gram copper coin was 1/100 Scudo . A baiocco was divided into 5 quattrini. In addition to whole baiocchi, half and double baiocchi, as well as during the reign of Pius VI. also coins of 2 ½ and 5 Baiocchi minted. A 3 baiocchi coin was also in circulation during the Roman Republic of 1849.

In the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (1816–1861) there was also a baiocco to the value of 2  grani ; The Baiocco also circulated in Romagna (1859-1860), which was independent for six months .
