The Bakaris bulldog bat ( Mops bakarii ) is a bat species of the genus Mops , subgenus Xiphonycteris , that occurs in Pemba , Tanzania .
description
The Bakaris bulldog bat weighs an average of 16.6 g. The average body length is 97.7 mm. On the upper side the fur is colored chocolate brown, the belly side is yellowish-white. The back of some specimens is irregularly speckled with white. The wings are black, the tail skin on the dorsal side brown in places and gray haired in places on the belly side. As with other bulldog bats , the upper lip is wrinkled, the Bakaris bulldog bat has six to seven lip folds. The antitragus is 4 mm wide and 3 mm long, the tragus 2 mm long. The species differs from all other species of the genus Pug ( Xiphonycteris ) by the absence of the posterior cuneiform bone.
distribution
The Bakaris bulldog bat has so far only been detected in the north of Pemba, near the Ngezi Forest .
Way of life
The type specimen was caught in a hospital, the colony lived there near a forest under the roof. The quarter was also inhabited by Chaerephon leucogaster .
etymology
The specific epithon honors Dr. Bakari Asseid, Director of the Department of Commercial Crops, Fruits and Forestry , who works for the conservation of Zanzibar.
