Bakenrenef was an ancient Egyptian vizier of the 26th Dynasty ( Late Period ).

There have been two viziers in Egypt since the New Kingdom . This division of office was retained in the later period. The administrative area of Bakenrenef was in Lower Egypt . Bakenrenef officiated under Psammetich I (664 - 610 BC). His father was the mayor Padineit , his mother a certain Tageb . After Chaemwaset ( 19th dynasty ) he again had the title " Iunmutef, cleaner of the great house " in his title.

Bakenrenef is best known for his large rock tomb in Saqqara , whose cult rooms were decorated with reliefs . Rock tombs of this type are hardly known from this period , especially from Saqqara. The decoration of this complex mostly shows scenes from the Book of the Dead and the books of the underworld. The vizier's sarcophagus is now in Florence .

The decoration of the grave was found largely intact by the Lepsius expedition in the middle of the 19th century and copied. Since then the grave has been devastated. Most of the reliefs were broken out of the walls and sold to various museums and private collectors. An Italian expedition has been working here for about 20 years, which also found burial chambers from the 30th dynasty, in which viziers were also buried.
