Balázs Szobi

Balázs Szobi (born April 28, 1973 in Budapest , Hungary ; † July 5, 2010 there ) was a Hungarian motor sportsman and racing driver .

Career

At a young age he took part in rally championships with a Lada , but also tried out other sports in the air, on land and at sea. He drove jet skis from 1997 to 2002 , took part in the Dakar Rally from 2006 and has been driving truck races in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship since 2008 .

There he was considered particularly talented and in 2010 was always among the top ten. After only 3 races he had already achieved 28 points and was with Jochen Hahn , his former team colleague of the Hahn OXXO Racing team, in 3rd place in the team standings with 195 points.

His career came to a tragic end on July 5, 2010, when he, together with his Team OXXO press manager and a sponsor, had a fatal accident in a plane crash . The three were on board the small aircraft of type Cessna , the freshly refueled from the airfield Farkashegy (LHFH) ascended and was then crashed, after it burned partially.
