Balderas was a title at the court of the Negus Negest ( Emperor ) of Ethiopia . This traditional military dignity, introduced around 1400 , means leader of the shield bearers and was bestowed on the imperial grand stable master . Under Emperor Susniyos ( 1607 - 1632 ) the Balderas led the cavalry .
