Baldwin II (Boulogne)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baldwin II (Netherlandish Boudewijn , French: Baudouin ; † probably 1033 ) was a count of Boulogne . He was probably a son of Count Arnulf II of Boulogne († after 972).

Baldwin appears in 988 in the deed of donation as a witness in which Count Baldwin IV of Flanders ceded the town of Avelgem to St. Peter's Abbey in Ghent . Count Arnulf von Ternois , who also appeared as a witness, could have been his brother.

For the year 1033 the chronicle of the Abbey of Saint-Riquier noted that their advocatus Enguerrand killed a Count of Boulogne in battle, then married his widow and then assumed the title of Count himself. The Count of Boulogne who was killed was probably Baldwin II, whose widow was Adelvie von Westfriesland from the Gerulfinger clan .

The next Count of Boulogne known by name was Eustach I , whose family relationship with the Counts from Flemish dynasty is unclear.
