Baldwin von Steinfurt also Baldewinus alias Boldewinus de Stenvordia († March 31 (after 1362)) was as Baldwin from 1341 to 1361 the 29th bishop of Paderborn .
Life
Balduin came from the noble lords of Steinfurt and was the son of Ludolf von Steinfurt and his wife Oda von Diepholz . His nephew Rudolf von Steinfurt was a cathedral scholaster in Münster . From 1313 he belonged to the cathedral chapter of Münster and from 1318 also that of Paderborn. In February 1341 the Paderborn cathedral chapter elected him 29th bishop of the diocese, on August 18 of the same year he was ordained bishop in the cathedral church in Herford .
In 1343 Balduin arranged for a collection from across the bishopric to restore the Paderborn cathedral, which had been damaged by the fire in 1340 .
During his term of office, the Black Death erupted in the Paderborn Monastery in 1349/1350 , which raged so badly that it was hardly possible to bury the many dead. At the beginning of 1361, Baldwin, suffering from gout and decrepit, sent a personal envoy to Avignon to transfer his episcopal office into the hands of the pope there, Innocent VI. to give up. He lived to see his successor, Heinrich III. , on March 17, 1361 and died on March 31 (after 1362).
