history

At the end of 2000, the "Fixed Installations" division of Adtranz - DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems was acquired by Balfour Beatty and from then on continued as Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH , an independent division within the Balfour Beatty Rail Group. The Adtranz was previously created through the merger of the traditional companies ABB in railway construction and railway infrastructure and the railway division of AEG .

In 2002, the former ABB SAE Sadelmi was taken over by the Balfour Beatty Rail Group in Italy and assigned to Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH . Towards the end of 2004, the “Electrotechnical Equipment” division of ABB Gebäudetechnik was bought up by the Balfour Beatty Rail Group and also integrated into Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH . This expanded the business area to include the entire range of electrical equipment along the route.

At the end of August 2005, the company took over the business of Signalbau Bahn GmbH , SBB for short, from Staßfurt's signaling and security technology company . The expansion to include signaling technology should be an important step towards becoming a leading provider of complex projects in technical railway equipment. SBB has been trading as Balfour Beatty Rail Signal GmbH since the beginning of 2006 .

In 2008 Schreck-Mieves GmbH was integrated into the group. This also gave Balfour Beatty Rail a track construction division and became a full-service provider for rail infrastructure projects. The Dortmunder Weichenwerk of Schreck-Mieves was closed, 2013. In 2014, the track systems division was sold to the Rhomberg Sersa Group. Rail Power Systems GmbH was founded in October, with the equipment division, i.e. H. the areas of rail electrification and rail power supply were transferred. Balfour Beatty Rail has been involved in many important railway construction projects in Germany in recent years, including as general contractor for the technical equipment of the Nuremberg – Ingolstadt – Munich high-speed line and the north-south connection including Berlin's main train station . The company electrified the Hamburg-Lübeck-Travemünde railway line and the Skandinavienkai and was also involved in the construction of the rail link to Berlin Brandenburg Airport . For Germany's third longest railway tunnel - the Katzenberg Tunnel - Balfour Beatty Rail took on the planning and construction of the overhead contact line systems and the 50 Hz tunnel safety equipment as well as laying the long rails. The tunnel went into operation on December 9, 2012. As part of the “Transtec Gotthard” bidding consortium, Balfour Beatty Rail is the partner responsible for rail technology in the Gotthard Base Tunnel .
