Abandoned farm in Ballychatrigan

Ballychatrigan is a derelict town on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . Ballychatrigan was located about 500 m from the southeast coast of the Oa Peninsula about two kilometers southeast of Coillabus and three kilometers west of Kinnabus . A brook runs over the settlement area, which rises a few hundred meters northwest near the lake Loch Ard Achadh . The village was connected to the road network that connected the Oa settlements with one another. The road led in a north-westerly direction and was the next settlement to reach Cragabus. In a southerly direction it led to Stremnishmore , which is also now abandoned , where it ended.

In 1861, 138 people were still counted in Ballychatrigan, divided into 21 families. Of these, 78 were female and 60 were male. In 1882, 19 buildings were counted in Ballychatrigan, most of which had since fallen into disrepair. The recently abandoned Ballychatrigan Farm is home to the town's only intact buildings.
