Loch Ard Achadh is a lake on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located in the southern part of the island on the Oa peninsula . The closest settlements are Coillabus, one kilometer north- northeast, and Kinnabus, 1.5 km southwest . The now abandoned settlement of Asabus was once a few hundred meters southwest . The lake is around 450 m long, a maximum of around 270 m wide and runs in a north-northeast direction. 200 m to the northwest is the small neighboring lake Loch nan Gillean . On the south-west bank, a short stream flows from Loch Ard Achadh, which feeds the lower-lying neighboring lake Loch Kinnabus .

Between Loch Ard Achadh and Loch nan Gillean are the remains of an abandoned farm. Directly to the east of it, the earth-covered traces of much older dwellings were discovered, which probably date from the time the island was occupied by Vikings. The discovery of an ax from the late Bronze Age suggests that the shores of the lake were already settled in the Bronze and Early Iron Ages.
