Balsa Nova (officially Portuguese Município de Balsa Nova ; German New Ferry ) is a small town with a good 10,000 inhabitants in the Brazilian state of Paraná about 10 km west of Araucária , a suburb of Curitiba , the capital of the state.

The place is located on Iguaçu , famous for its waterfalls a few hundred kilometers upstream .
