Balthasar, Prince of Wenden [-Güstrow] (* around 1375 - April 5, 1421 ) was from 1393/94 to 1421 Lord of Werle-Güstrow and from 1418 Prince of Wenden.

biography

Balthasar was the eldest son of Lorenz and Mechthild († before December 17, 1402).

After the death of his father Lorenz in 1393/94, he ruled alone, but from December 11, 1395 together with his brother Johann VII and from May 1, 1401 also with his brother Wilhelm von Werle . Since May 4, 1418, he has called himself, like his brother, Fürst zu Wenden, on the basis of chronicles from Bishop Otto von Havelberg, in which they had obtained a certificate of their royal descent. He was buried in Güstrow Cathedral .

Balthasar was with first Euphemia, the daughter of Magnus I of Mecklenburg (∞ October 18, 1397; † October 16, 1417) and then with Heilwig, daughter of Count Gerhard VI. von Holstein-Rendsburg († before 1436) married. Heilwig later married Dietrich von Oldenburg .

Before that he was with Agnes, the daughter of Bogislaw VI. Duke of Pommern-Wolgast, engaged. The wedding probably did not take place.

Children are not known of him.
