Nature Deficit Syndrome

With the term nature deficit disorder ( English nature deficit disorder , dt Literally. Nature Deficit Disorder ) is coming from the research from the United States, the phenomenon of an increasing alienation from nature referred to: the lack of knowledge and the non-multi- Experience natural rhythms and appearances as well as the consequences of this alienation, especially for children and young people and their development, but also for adults and society.

When examining a drawing competition in which 30% of the 40,000 participating children in Bavaria in the mid-1990s colored a cow based on the model of the so-called lilac cow in the color lilac, sociologists came to the conclusion that

“That children and young people idealize nature into an idyllic, harmonious parallel world in which humans have no business. Planting trees is good, cutting trees is bad, and the hunter is a murderer anyway. "

The researchers also called this result Bambi syndrome .

In this context, 7% of the children surveyed believed that ducks were yellow in 1997, compared to 11% in 2003.
