The Bandarpunch is a 6316 m high peak in the Indian state of Uttarakhand in the western Garhwal Himalayas .
The bandar punch is located in the Uttarkashi district . 2.6 km west of the main summit is the 6102 m high Bandarpunch West (also Bandarpunch II or White Peak ).
At a distance of 3.26 km, the 6,387 m high Kalanag rises north-northeast of the Bandarpunch . The notch height is not quite 500 m, so that the Bandarpunch is not considered an "independent mountain". The nutrient zone of the Bandarpunch Glacier is located on the northwest slope of the Bandarpunch .
The literal meaning of the mountain means "tail of the monkey".
The Bandarpunch was first climbed in 1950 by Tenzing Norgay , Roy Greenwood and the Sherpa Kin Chok Tshering. The lower Bandarpunch West was first climbed in 1984 by an Indian expedition over the northeast ridge.
