Banja Tejan-you

Sir Banja Tejan-Sie , GCMG (born August 7, 1917 in Moyamba district , † August 8, 2000 in England ) was a Sierra Leonean politician and lawyer , co-founder of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) and governor-general of his country.

Tejan-She was born into a wealthy Fulani family. He attended school in Bo and the Prince of Wales -School in Freetown , rather he attended the London School of Economics and Lincoln's Inn law studied.

Tejan-She was married and had three children.

Professional background

In 1951, Tejan-Sie surprisingly lost the election for a seat in parliament . Two years later he became one of the vice presidents of the SLPP. In 1957 he suffered another defeat in parliamentary elections, whereupon Tejan-Sie turned away from politics and worked as a lawyer. In 1962, Tejan-Sie became Speaker of Parliament.

In the turmoil of a coup in Sierra Leone in 1967, Tejan-Sie was appointed Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court. With the return of civil order, he was promoted to Governor General on April 22, 1968. On March 31, 1971, with the proclamation of the Republic, Tejan-Sie went into exile in England, where he lived until the end of his life. He visited Sierra Leone only once in 1987, at the invitation of President Joseph Saidu Momoh .
