The Bank of America Tower is a 188-meter skyscraper in the city of Jacksonville , Florida . It was the headquarters of Barnett Bank and was originally called Barnett Tower , but the name of the bank and building was changed in 1997 because the Barnett Group was bought by NationsBank , which in turn merged into Bank of America in 1998 .
When completed in 1990, the building was the tallest in Jacksonville and the tallest between Atlanta and Miami . The 42-story building was designed by the German-American architect Helmut Jahn , and consists mainly of reinforced concrete and glass .
