List of central banks

The Bank of Namibia ( English Bank of Namibia , BON) is the central bank of Namibia and thus operates the currency and monetary policy for the Namibia dollar . This is linked 1 to 1 to the South African rand , which is why the repo interest rate must be kept the same as that in South Africa .

The Bank of Namibia was established in 1990 and is administered by a board of directors. This consists of the governor, the deputy governor, the permanent envoy from the Treasury , a member of the public service and four other representatives of the public.

The bank is headquartered in Windhoek , with a branch in Oshakati .

In March 2020, Governor Iipumbu Shiimi moved to the Ministry of Finance as Minister . He was temporarily succeeded by Lieutenant Governor Ebson Uanguta as head of the central bank. On April 21, 2020, Johannes! Gawaxab was appointed governor with effect from June 1, 2020 - until December 1, 2021.
