The Baptist Union of Wales ( Baptist Union of Wales - Welsh : Undeb Bedyddwyr Cymru ) is an association of Baptist congregations in Wales .
history
Hugh Evans, a General Baptist pastor , was one of the first Baptists to preach in Wales around 1646. The first church was founded in 1649 by John Miles (1621-1683) and Thomas Proud in Ilston , both of whom belonged to the Particular Baptists in London . The first general assembly of Welsh Baptists was held by three congregations in 1650.
In 1866 a national association of Baptist Churches was organized in Wales. One of the most important Welsh preachers was Christmas Evans (1766-1838).
Statistics, organization and language
In 1995 the Baptist Union of Wales had 544 congregations with 25,384 members. 146 of the 9,552 congregations were also represented in the Baptist Union of Great Britain . The Union’s administrative headquarters are in Carmarthen .
