Barbara Eschen (born May 28, 1956 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German Protestant theologian. Since 2014 she has been the director of the Diakonisches Werk Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (DWBO).

Eschen studied Protestant theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and, after her ordination , was a pastor in Hagen from 1984 . In 1989 she became the managing director of the Diakonisches Werk in the church district of Hagen . From 1999 to 2013 she was theological director of the Hessian Diakoniezentrum Hephata (Schwalmstadt) and since 2009, as the first deputy of Dean Christian Wachter, member of the 11th Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany for Kurhessen-Waldeck . As director of the DWBO, she has been working intensively on issues of poverty and exclusion, housing shortages and migration since 2014. In 2015 she was elected by the EKBO as 1st deputy of the superintendent Hans-Georg Furian in the 12th EKD Synod. In 2017/18 she was also the spokesperson for the National Poverty Conference . As a representative of the Evangelical Church, she sat in the rbb - Broadcasting Council .
