Barbara Harrell-Bond

Barbara Harrell-Bond (born November 7, 1932 - July 11, 2018 ), OBE was a British anthropologist and professor at the American University in Cairo . The focus of her work was on refugee studies.

Life

Harrell-Bond founded Oxford's Refugee Studies Center at Oxford University . She worked as an anthropologist in West Africa and was Distinguished Visiting Professor at the American University in Cairo . Before that, she lectured at Makerere University in Uganda and the University of Warwick . She was the founder of several aid projects, such as the Refugee Law Project in Uganda and AMERA (Africa and Middle East Refugee Assistance) in Egypt. In 2005 she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire .
