Barbara Lenz grew up in a family that was characterized by art and developed artistic skills at an early age. The first "fabulous beings" have been created since 1989: the art objects, which mostly represent animal beings in human form, are made primarily from the feathers of various bird species, as well as other natural materials such as leaves, thistles, shells or pearls, rhinestones and cotton wool. Elaborated in great detail, many of the approx. 30 cm tall figures are provided with a music box, some of them move to the music due to a mechanism built into the body. Others are equipped with smoke generators, sound generators or lighting.

The art objects have a wide variety of thematic references, and artistic scenes are often shown. The focus is always on the translation of the relationship between humans and animals.

In parallel to the “fabulous creatures” made from bird feathers, she has developed large-format animal sculptures made from mussels and snails in recent years. In addition to the 1.60 meter high fountain figure “Muschellöwen”, the “Muschelpanther”, the “Flederbock” (span 4 m), a walk-in shell grotto with mirror surfaces and candle lighting was created in 2007.
