Barbara Praetorius

Barbara Praetorius (* 1964 in Berlin ) is an economist and political scientist with a focus on sustainability and climate protection . She is professor for sustainability, environmental and energy economics and politics at the Berlin University of Technology and Economics (HTW Berlin).

Life

Praetorius received his doctorate in 2000 from the Free University of Berlin on the reform of the electricity industry in South Africa. She worked at DIW Berlin from 1992 to 2008 and at the Association of Municipal Companies from 2008 to 2014 . From 2014 to 2017, Praetorius worked as the deputy head of Agora Energiewende , a think tank that advocates consistent climate protection and an early phase out of coal . In April 2017 she was appointed professor at the HTW Berlin.

Act

Praetorius is one of the four chairs of the Commission for Growth, Structural Change and Employment ("Coal Commission") of the German Federal Government. The other three chairmen are seen as supporters of a late coal exit. The commission reached an agreement at the end of January 2019.
