Barbara Kesel , née Randall (born October 2, 1960 ) is an American comic book writer and editor.

Life and work

Randall / Kesel has been a full-time comic book writer since the late 1980s. She got her first involvement in the industry from Dick Giordano , then a senior editor at the US major publisher DC Comics . The reason for her employment was a ten-page letter of complaint from Kesel to Giordano, in which she criticized the representation of women in the comic series edited by Giordano. Giordano entrusted Randall together with her husband Karl Kesel - whose name she took on at the time and from whom she has since divorced - with the design of the adventure series Hawk and Dove , which describes the experiences of an unequal sibling couple. Kesel's “Run” on Hawk and Dove was received largely positively by readers and critics alike .

Following on from this first success, Kesel received a number of other writing jobs. For Dark Horse , Kesel wrote the miniseries Aliens versus Predator: Booty as well as numerous comics about the character Hellboy created by Mike Mignola . For DC, the One Shot Lois Lane from 1998 and the miniseries Elseworld's Finest: Supergirl & Batgirl followed . She wrote several issues of the Wildcats series for Wilstorm.
