Barbara Thiessen

Barbara Thiessen (* 1965 in Plochingen ) is a German social scientist and has been professor of social work and gender studies at the Landshut University of Applied Sciences since 2010 . Since 2016 she has been chairwoman of the German Society for Social Work (DGSA) .

Career

After studying social pedagogy at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Reutlingen and social work science at the University of Bremen, Barbara Thiessen worked on various research projects at the Universities of Bremen and Lüneburg. From 1999 to 2003 she was scientific director at the Research Center Gender Studies at the University of Bremen . She took on teaching positions at the Universities of Bremen, Lüneburg and the Bremen University of Applied Sciences in the study programs of social work, public health and professional education . From 2006 to 2010 she was the policy advisor for family policy and family policy performance systems at the German Youth Institute eV , Munich. Barbara Thiessen has been a professor at the Faculty of Social Work at the Landshut University of Applied Sciences since 2010. Her focus is on gender dynamics in the context of intersectionality, gender relations and care, gender equality policies in social work, family life and parenting in social change, especially with regard to gender, migration society and social inequality, methods of supervisory advice and organizational development for social services. Since 2013 she has been head of the interdisciplinary research institute Social Change and Cohesion Research (IKON) at the University of Landshut.
