Barbitistes is agenus of locusts from the subfamily of sickle hornets (Phaneropterinae).
features
The fastigium is usually conical and blunt. The length of the antennas is roughly 1.5 to 3 times the length of the body. In the metazona , the pronotum is almost always slightly elevated in both females and males. The species are micropter . The elytra of the males are only slightly covered, the females, however, at the base by about a third to a quarter. The males have long and mostly tortuous cerci that cross behind the subgenital plate . The cerci of the females are slender and conical. In the middle, the subgenital plate of the males is keeled to strongly protruding, that of the females is transversely triangular. The ovipositor is ventrally straight and only curved upwards in the apical third or quarter. There is often a longitudinal gap under the lamella at its base. The barbitistes species are often brightly colored and there are many dark shapes.
