Coordinates: 23 ° 34 ′  S , 145 ° 17 ′  E The Barcaldine Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 53,387.7 km² and has about 2,900 inhabitants.

geography

The region is located in the center of the state about 890 km northwest of the capital Brisbane .

The largest town and administrative seat of the LGA is Barcaldine with around 1,300 inhabitants. Other localities are Alpha, Aramac, Jericho and Muttaburra.

history

Today's Barcaldine Region emerged in 2008 from the three Shires Aramac, Barcaldine and Jericho.

administration

The Barcaldine Regional Council has seven members. The mayor (mayor) and six other councilors are elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
