Barcode is a Dutch computer-animated short film directed by Adriaan Lokman in 2001.

In abstract, black and white 3D animation, bars of the same height are shown on a surface. Points of light lead to the casting of shadows, with the number of rods increasing over time and the arrangement of the elevations on the surface taking on more complex forms. The number of points of light varies, the speed of the camera increases or decreases and the camera position leads to constantly changing views.

The Dutchman Adriaan Lokman, who up until then had produced advertising films with his production company Lokman Produkties in Rotterdam , created his first independent directorial work with Barcode in 2001. The production was financially supported by the Dutch Film Fund.
In the film, he dealt with the question of how different light sources could create different impressions in interaction with a simply shaped object. The film was shown in September 2001 as part of the Dutch Film Festival . With Barcode III.0 , Lokman released a remake of his 2001 work in 2013.
Awards
In 2002 the film won the Cristal d'Annecy of the Festival d'Animation Annecy . Also in 2002 the film was awarded the Silver Dove of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. The film received a special mention at the Animafest Zagreb in 2002.
