The Bargus Mountains ( Russian Баргузинский хребет / Bargusinski chrebet ) is a high mountain range in Buryatia , Russia ( Asia ), towering up to 2840 m .
The mountains, which are around 280 kilometers long in north-south direction, extend east of Lake Baikal . In the west it borders on the lake and on the east by the Barguzin valley , through which the eponymous river Barguzin flows. In the northeast, the Bargusing Mountains gradually merge into the Stanowoi Highlands .
The mountains, in the western part of which there is a large part of the Barguzin Nature Reserve , are mainly covered by taiga .
