Gerhard Rupprath (born April 4, 1945 in Worbis ) is a German pediatrician . From February 1986 to August 2013 he was chief physician at the children's clinic at the West Palatinate Clinic in Kaiserslautern . He is an adjunct professor at the Georg August University in Göttingen .

The focus of his work is on the establishment of a pediatric cardiology center with supraregional importance in cooperation with the cardiac surgery and internal medicine of the West Palatinate Clinic as well as the expansion of neonatology and intensive care medicine as part of the perinatology focus.

Life

He completed his studies in Marburg and Göttingen, where he passed his state examination in 1972 and obtained his doctorate. He then enjoyed pediatric training under Helmut Wolf at the city ​​hospital in Kassel . In 1978 he became a specialist of Pediatrics. He then continued his education in pediatric cardiology at the University Children's Hospital in Göttingen , where he worked from 1979 to 1986 as a senior physician under Alois J. Beuren. During this time he completed his habilitation in the field of paediatrics, especially pediatric cardiology on two-dimensional echocardiography for complex cyanotic heart defects. In 1984 he was the first to perform balloon expansion of congenital narrowing of the aortic and pulmonary valves in Germany. In newborns with critical aortic stenosis for the first time worldwide (3).
