Barmbek basch is a term used in Hamburg for the allegedly proverbial rowdiness of the residents of the Barmbek district . The Community Center Barmbek ° Basch in Barmbek-Süd , which opened in March 2010, was named after this historical term .

term

Barmbek basch goes back to the Low German word basch , which has roughly the meaning of rough . In terms of its composition, it stands for the rowdiness ascribed to the Barmbek people. The historical background is seen in the fact that the young people from the workers' quarters in this part of the city were known for fighting conflicts with their fists. The affected neighbors from the districts in Winterhude and Uhlenhorst , which are considered to be elegant, are said to have shaped the exclamation.

Community Center Barmbek ° Basch

A community center that opened in Barmbek-Süd in March 2010 was named Barmbek ° Basch based on this term . This district center is a Hamburg pilot project based on the Scandinavian model. In such a community center, several institutions are united in one house. In contrast to conventional centers, those involved, here cultural, social, official and church institutions, manage each other together and share event rooms, seminar rooms and technical equipment, among other things. Within this framework, the cooperation between the individual institutions in cultural events and social offers is also sought.

The Barmbek ° Basch is supported by the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Alt-Barmbek, the child and family center (KiFAZ) with family midwives, the Dehnhaide library , the Kulturpunkt im Basch (formerly Kulturhaus Dehnhaide ), the senior citizens 'meeting of the workers' welfare , the educational counseling and the Advice for mothers from the Hamburg-Nord district office .

The building was planned by the Hamburg architects Johannsen und Partner and completed on the property of the parish Alt-Barmbek next to the Kreuzkirche in 2009. In autumn 2010 it was included in the Realstadt architecture and urban planning exhibition in Berlin.

The city of Hamburg planned to build community centers in other parts of the city, such as the Haus am See Hohenhorst in Langenhorn and in the Wandsbek district , which opened in February 2012.
