The Barmer Stadthalle was an important building on the southern heights of the large city of Barmen, which was independent until 1929 .

The town hall was built between 1895 and 1897 in the Barmer facilities on behalf of the Barmer Beautification Association . Its architect was the director of the Barmer School of Applied Arts , Erdmann Hartig , who then built the Barmer Hall of Fame . With a total area of 2600 m², the town hall offered space for events for 1800 people; the concert hall was 770 m². The connection with the city center was provided by the Barmer Bergbahn .

The town hall was destroyed in the air raids on Wuppertal on May 30, 1943. Reconstruction did not take place; they wanted to keep the Elberfelder Stadthalle as an event building. After the war, the headquarters of the Barmer Substitute Fund , which is now home to the Wupper Association, was built on the site .
