The light separator ridge i. e. S. (in the narrower sense), also known locally as Wuppertaler Südhöhen , is, according to the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany, a small-scale natural spatial unit with the order number 338.050 in the urban area of the Bergisch city of Wuppertal and belongs as part of the natural spatial unit Lichtscheider Höhenback (338.05) to the higher-level natural area Bergische Hochflächen (338). The natural spatial unit is named after the dominant elevation Lichtscheid .

Locally, the natural spatial unit is referred to by the population, by official bodies of the city of Wuppertal and by the local press as the Wuppertaler Südhöhen. Like the natural spatial unit (with the exception of Cronenberg south of the Burgholzbach ), they include an area with the elevations south of the Wupper valley , starting with Küllenhahn , via Friedrichsberg , Hahnerberg , Grifflenberg , Friedenshöhe , Osterberg , Freudenberg , to Lichtscheid, Scharpenacken and Norrenberg .

The area lies in parts of the districts of Cronenberg , Elberfeld , Barmen and Heckinghausen . The route of the state road 418 crosses the natural area at the altitude. The Bergische Universität , the Küllenhahn telecommunications tower , the former Bergische Sonne leisure pool and all four former Wuppertal barracks and the Toelleturm are located on the southern heights .

The name and natural counterpart to the southern heights are the northern heights north of the Wupper.
