The Barnard Glacier is located in the western Elias chain in Alaska ( USA ). It was named after the US land surveyor and Boundary Commissioner Edward Chester Barnard (1863-1921).
geography
The 53 km long Barnard Glacier drains an area of about 1000 km², which extends from Mount Bear in the northeast to Mount Bona in the northwest. After the union of its two source glaciers, coming from the east and west, the Barnard Glacier flows over a distance of 35 km in a south-westerly direction. It has an average width of about 2.3 km. It finally ends at an altitude of 536 m on the north bank of the Chitina River . To the west of this is the lower end of the Hawkins Glacier .
