Baron Birdwood
Baron Birdwood , of Anzac and of Totnes in the County of Devon , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
History of the title
The title was created on January 25, 1938 for the British Field Marshal Sir William Birdwood, 1st Baronet . He had commanded the Australian troops in the Battle of Gallipoli ( Australian and New Zealand Army Corps , ANZAC) and on the Western Front during the First World War .
He had already been raised to Baronet , of Anzac and Totnes on October 6, 1919 . This title belonged to the Baronetage of the United Kingdom and was carried alongside the dignity of the baron.
With the death of his grandson, 3rd Baron Birdwood, on July 11, 2015, both titles became void.
