Christopher Bromhead Birdwood, 2nd Baron Birdwood MVO ( May 22, 1899 - January 5, 1962 ) was a British peer , officer and author .
life and career
Birdwood was born to William Birdwood, 1st Baron Birdwood , and Janetta Hope Gonville Bromhead. He was baptized in Twickenham , London . Birdwood attended Clifton College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Berkshire .
In 1917 Birdwood became an officer in the King Edward VII's Own Lancers (Probyn's Horse) , British Indian Army ; In 1921 he was promoted to captain and in 1935 to major. His highest rank was Lieutenant Colonel (Lieutenant Colonel).
He fought in World War I where he was Mentioned in Despatches . In France , he served as his father's aide-de-camp who was in command of the Australian Corps and later the 5th British Army . Between 1919 and 1920 and 1937 to 1938 he was involved in the Waziristan campaign . From 1929 to 1930 he was aide-de-camp with the high command in India . In June 1945, Birdwood was retired on health grounds.
Birdwood was awarded the Portuguese Order of Knights by Avis and was accepted into the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) in 1939 .
On May 17, 1951, he inherited his father's title. Between 1953 and 1961 he took part in several debates in the House of Lords . He died at the age of 62.

He married Elizabeth Vere Drummond Ogilvie on March 7, 1931 in Delhi . In 1953 they got divorced. They had two children together, Sonia Gina Ogilvie Birdwood (1933-2006) and Mark Birdwood , who inherited his father's title. Birdwood married Joan Pollack Graham on February 22, 1954.
