Giselher Schuschke (born June 18, 1935 in Halberstadt ; † June 15, 2008 in Magdeburg ) was a German hygienist and environmental doctor .

Life

Giselher Schuschke attended the Martineum grammar school until 1953. Then he studied human medicine until 1960 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Magdeburg Medical Academy (MAM). He then began his medical work in the Institute for Medical Microbiology at MAM. In 1962, he was with a thesis on a microbiological topic in the ear, nose and throat medicine doctorate . Due to a central mandate from the government of the GDR to set up a department for general and communal hygiene at all medical faculties and academies, his boss Harald Hudemann motivated him to continue training in hygiene, which Schuschke completed with a specialist doctor. In addition, he completed his training as a district hygiene doctor and worked as a district hygiene doctor in Magdeburg between 1964 and 1969.

In 1970 Giselher Schuschke was awarded the Facultas Docendi . After his habilitation in 1978 he was appointed director of the institute he had set up and professor for the field of hygiene in 1979 . His research focus was noise as an environmental factor, which was also the subject of his habilitation thesis. In the GDR specialist society for general and communal hygiene, he founded a section on communal noise protection from the healthy living environment section , which he headed for 20 years.

From 1978 onwards Schuschke built up the hospital hygiene of the university clinic, which he maintained until his retirement in 2000 as a hospital hygienist and chairman of a hygiene committee. After founding the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the Institute for Occupational Medicine and Hygiene in 1993, of which Eberhard Pfister was appointed director, Schuschke headed the independent hygiene and environmental medicine department until his retirement.

Politically, Schuschke had been a member of the Standing Commission on Health and Social Affairs of the Magdeburg City Council since 1966 . With a mandate from the Kulturbund , he became a city ​​councilor in 1970 and founded the Society for Nature and Environment in the Magdeburg district . After the political change , Giselher Schuschke continued to be active in leading scientific societies and committees, for example as Vice President of the German Society for Hospital Hygiene , in the Medical Association as chairman of the Hygiene Committee and the Committee for Health and Environment, as an independent expert on environmental protection at the European Community / European Union for the new federal states , as a board member in the European Society for Ecology and Medicine "August Bier" , as well as in the Foundation for Environment and Nature Conservation SUN. He also founded a support association Umwelthaus Magdeburg eV and an association for the promotion of a healthy indoor climate . In 1995 Giselher Schuchke was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for the sum of his voluntary work . Giselher Schuschke died on June 15, 2008 at the age of 72.
