Baron Brooke
Baron Brooke , of Beauchamps Court in the County of Warwick , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .
Award
The title was created on January 29, 1621 by Letters patent for the Chancellor of the Exchequer Sir Fulke Greville . Since he was married and childless, the award was made with the special addition that the title could be inherited by his cousins Robert Greville and William Greville and their male descendants in the absence of his own male descendants. De iure, he inherited the right to the title of 5th Baron Willoughby de Broke when his father died , but never formally asserted this. At his death, 1628, the claim to the barony Willoughby de Broke fell to his sister Margaret Greville, the barony Brooke fell to his cousin Robert Greville as 2nd baron according to the special inheritance regulation. His great-great-grandson, the 8th Baron Brooke, was raised in the Peerage of Great Britain on July 7, 1746 to Earl Brooke , of Warwick Castle, and on April 2, 1760 to Earl of Warwick . The barony has since been a subordinate title of the respective earl and his eldest son has been using the courtesy title of Lord Brooke as the heir apparent .
