Coat of arms of Baron Carbery

Baron Carbery , of Carbery in the County of Cork , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

Award

The title was created on May 9, 1715 by letters patent from King George I for the Anglo-Irish politician George Evans . The award was in recognition of the merits of his father George Evans (1655-1720) during the Glorious Revolution and was therefore awarded with the special addition that the title was inheritable in the absence of male descendants to the other male descendants of his father. His father himself had declined a peer survey .

On the death of his grandson, the 5th baron, in 1807, the title fell to his second nephew, Sir John Evans-Freke, 2nd baronet , as 6th baron. Already in 1777 he had inherited the title Baronet , of Castle Freke in the County of Cork, awarded to him on July 15, 1768 in the Baronetage of Ireland from his father .

Today's title holder has been his great-great-great-great-nephew Michael Evans-Freke as the 12th Baron since 2012 . He has not yet formally claimed his subordinate baronet title; this title has therefore been formally regarded as dormant since 2012.
