Earl of Carbery

Earl of Carbery , of Carbery in the County of Cork , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

The Earls' family seat was Golden Grove in Carmarthenshire , Wales .

Award and history of the title

Richard Vaughan, 2nd Earl of Carbery

The title was created on August 5, 1628 for the Welsh courtier and politician John Vaughan, 1st Baron Vaughan . On July 13, 1621 this had already been given the subordinate title Baron Vaughan , of Mullengar in the County of Westmeath, in the Peerage of Ireland .

His son, the 2nd Earl, was also awarded the title Baron Vaughan , of Emlyn in the County of Carmart in the Peerage of England on October 25, 1643 .

All three titles expired on the death of his childless second son, the 3rd Earl, on November 30, 1713.
