Manuel Freitas (born August 15, 1956 ), fighting name Mau Buti , is an East Timorese soldier and former freedom fighter.

In the time of the liberation struggle against Indonesia until 1999 he rose to the position of second regional commander. In 2006, Freitas was awarded the Ordem da Guerrilha and in 2018 the Collar des Ordem de Timor-Leste . In the Defense Forces of East Timor (F-FDTL) he has the rank of Coronel (Colonel) .

Freitas was one of the F-FDTL officers who were accused by a United Nations report of distributing weapons to civilians during the 2006 riots in East Timor . The allegations had no consequences for the officers.
